It’s been a blast working in Crate and bringing our work there. Even on their deep clean day, where tables are scrubbed beyond an inch of their lives, there is so much life and so many interesting people working there and coming in the bar. It feels like a good way of working, to be in the middle of life. As the wonderful Alex McKie used to say about people designing things, that they would be at work doing this, and not at home, or at life, which limited their imaginations and empathy. Well, at least not in such an inspiring space as this place.
We’ve had a group of creatives and an ex-financial refugee doing new business ideas with us on the Tuesday morning sessions. Some are starting something that uses their core skills in a more audience focused way. Others have been made redundant, or are in the process of reinventing themselves. Its such a fascinating space to be working in.
The idea is that this 6 week ‘residency’ in Crate might get a group of startups meeting regularly, and especially those who might enjoy being part of a group, which is what you’ll get in other programmes. We’ve got our Prototyping Upstarts weekend for those who want to take it further.
